Is Virtual PT Right For You?

Virtual PT is often misunderstood as a lesser version of in-person care. For many patients and conditions, it’s not just comparable — it’s the better choice. Particularly for those that travel extensively or need continuity of care during demanding seasons.

The honest answer is that it depends on what you need. Conditions requiring hands-on manual therapy are better suited to in-person. Everything else — movement analysis, exercise prescription, postural correction, education, return-to-activity planning — can be done well at a distance with the right clinician.

We’ll tell you on your discovery call whether virtual is the right fit for your specific situation. We won’t push you toward a format that doesn’t serve you.

Virtual PT works well for:

Better suited to in-person: Conditions requiring joint manipulation, direct manual tissue work, or tactile feedback for accurate assessment. If that’s you, in-person PT is the right page.

Session Structure

What To Expect In A Virtual Appointment

The structure mirrors an in-person session. The format adapts — the clinical standard doesn’t.

01

Connect

Secure Video Session

You’ll receive a link to a HIPAA-compliant video platform before your appointment. No downloads required. Works on phone, tablet, or computer.

02

Assess

Movement Observation

Your clinician watches how you move in your actual environment — your studio, home, dressing room. Often more revealing than a clinical setting with its sterile constraints.

03

Treat

Guided Therapeutic Work

Hands-on techniques are replaced with guided self-mobilization, corrective movement, and therapeutic exercise cueing. Your clinician coaches you through each element in real time.

04

Plan

Written Home Program

Session notes and a detailed home program sent after every appointment. Exercises and cues specific to what you worked on and what you’re returning to in training.

05

Coordinate

Team Communication

With your permission, your clinician can connect with coaches, directors, or other providers — regardless of where anyone is physically located.

06

Document

Superbill For Insurance

A superbill can beprovided on an as-needed basis. Submit for out-of-network reimbursement. HSA and FSA accepted.

Common Questions

Your Virtual PT Questions, Answered

For many conditions, yes — and for some, it’s actually better because your clinician can see you move in your real environment (your studio, your stage setup, your practice space) rather than a clinical environment designed to be generic. Where it falls short is in conditions requiring direct manual therapy. We’ll be upfront about that on your discovery call.
PT licensure is state-specific. Mention your location when you reach out and we’ll confirm immediately whether we can see you virtually in your state.

If your situation genuinely requires hands-on manual therapy, we’ll tell you. If you’re in or near Ann Arbor, we’d recommend transitioning to in-person for those elements. If you’re remote, we can help identify appropriate referral options near you while we continue to manage the aspects of your care that work well virtually.

Yes. All virtual sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. No consumer video apps (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.) are used for clinical sessions.

Session pricing is consistent across in-person and virtual formats — you’re paying for the same 60 minutes of undivided clinical attention. A superbill is provided for both. Contact us for current session rates.
