There’s a meaningful difference between knowing anatomy and understanding what a show schedule costs your hip flexors — or what a bowing arm injury to a violinist means for an audition next week.
PerformWell was built from the ground up for performing artists. Every treatment plan accounts for your technique, your training cycle, your stage demands, and your goals beyond simply being pain-free.
Led by Dr. Kristen Schuyten — faculty at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, and a published researcher, and internationally recognized educator and presenter in performing arts medicine and concussion
High-impact, high-skill disciplines with specialized injury profiles. We work from beginners to internationally competitive performers.
That means one patient per hour, every session with a doctor of physical therapy. No shared time slots, only with physical therapists with decades of experience in performing arts and physical therapy. Insurance-based PT often means 2–4 patients per clinician per hour. That’s not the kind of attention your body — or your art — deserves.
We provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, and HSA/FSA is accepted.
Returning from injury isn’t the finish line. PerformWell plans around your audition calendar, opening night, and competition schedule — because getting back to baseline is not the same as getting back to your best.
We also partner with performing arts organizations, schools, and companies to provide injury screenings, conditioning programs, workshops, and emergency response training, to help prepare you and your fellow performers and athletes in case anything big or small happens backstage, at the gym, or on the ice.
